MONTY & AGNES
Younger children are nearly always happier in their own environment – especially if I show a (genuine) interest in their books and favourite toys. I’ve done 9 years of childrearing myself, there aren’t many characters, songs*, stories or jokes that I don’t know and can’t use to my advantage. Being allowed to bounce on a parents’ bed (temporary permit only) is also popular.. This gorgeous pair were so happy to play inside and explore outside, despite the gloomy weather, and their sense of wonder and fun was infectious.
*Actually I’ve never seen Frozen. No, really.
‘Thank you so much for the photos. We had such a fun morning with you and you met my brief for ‘nothing too structured and stage-managed’ perfectly. The set of photos are exactly what I wanted, the children being children doing what they do and capturing honest moments of their world, funny little interactions, in-jokes, zest for life and love for each other (which they will no doubt deny existed when they are teenagers.)
Of course inviting you to take the photos was actually all a ruse so that I can pretend in years to come that I was cool and talented enough to frolic around with the children, camera in hand at just the right moment, when the reality is that I have either left the camera at home, left the lens cap on or just missed the action completely. (I hope you don’t mind being part of my on-going deception.) In the meantime, we have a wonderful series of pictures that never fail to attract attention when people come round and it won’t be long before we are back for more.’
